Organic fruit is undeniably delicious, but you can’t always find exactly what you want. Whether it’s because of the season or because there are fewer organic farmers in Kenya, there are some fruits that you can’t find every trip to OFM. Of course, this means that when you do find them, it’s very tempting to buy in bulk – and, it turns out, you should!
While there’s nothing quite like fresh, ripe fruit, there is a wide range of preservation methods that will let you enjoy your favourite flavours for weeks and even months to come. Here are some of our favourite methods, with links to in-depth guides:
- Canning, whether as slices or as jams, is an in depth process, but it also gives your fruit a very long shelf life – up to a year.
- Drying fruit in the oven doesn’t take much effort, but it can be time consuming, taking up to 12 hours for certain varieties.
- Making boozy fruit is something of a trend these days, and it’s no wonder why. An easy process that leaves you with both infused alcohol and infused fruit, you can make delicious cocktails and desserts with the results.
- The simplest method, of course, is freezing the fruit you love, which you can thaw out to use in recipes or just blend into a delicious smoothie.
Next time you see your favourite fruit at OFM, keep these options in mind, and be sure to ask our farmers about bulk rates, as you may even get a great deal!
